Could you offer a home to an animal?

As well as offering a home on site for the remainder of the lives of our animals, we are also happy to rehome them when possible. This helps us to get a perfect home for an animal and free up space to rescue more in need. We will only consider adoption to the perfect home. Each case is different and will be treated accordingly.

Cats & Dogs

Although primarily we are a sanctuary for equines and farm animals we do rescue and rehome a huge amount of cats and dogs. If you are considering adopting a new family member please get in touch to see what we have available at the moment. All of our animals will be rehomed to responsible homes only. All of our cats and dogs will be castrated and vaccinated prior to adoption. Except on some particular occasions with younger or sick animals with strict agreements that this will be done when the time is right.

Re-homing

Little family friends
Smaller animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks and chickens are also available if the home available is appropriate for the animals needs. We do not adopt out turtles, birds, tortoises or reptiles.

Horses

All equines will be rehomed with a personalised contract that will be arranged prior to adoption. Prospective homes must agree to provide the equine with a home for life, however if something unforeseen arises the equine must return to Tenerife Horse Rescue. This agreement helps both horse and home as we are here to find the perfect future lives for our equines.

What we look for in a potential home.

  • You must be over 18 years of age or with the consent and responsibility of a parent/guardian.
  • Understanding and patient outlook to horse care. Horse first approach.
  • Horses only available as companion horses or pleasure riders. Not suitable for heavy competitive/discipline centred riding.
  • Financially secure enough to look after an equine and their health needs.
  • Have experience at loaning/owning an equine or being fully involved in the day to day care of an equine.
  • Have an appropriate place to keep the equine.
  • Have another equine or board at a place with other equines.
  • We do not rehome equines to places with only stable/single paddocks.

If you feel that you are able to offer a home, please get in touch with us regarding your chosen horse and to arrange a meeting here and then a home visit.

If your home visit goes well and you are happy with the horse and the horse is happy with you.
We can then talk further about making a personalised plan for you and your future horse. We are always only a phone call away for any questions and support.

We will make sure you and your horse are supported. Our horses are our main priority to keep them happy and safe.

This sweet little puss cat was found in the streets. She was skin and bones, full of mange and quite sick. We thought she was going to be leukemia positive, but to our happy surprise she was not. With the correct care and treatment she has made a full recovery.

Zazu

This canine companion made an unexpected appearance at the finca, on the very day that Iggy was rushed into the vets. Iggy, who has been with Emma since she was 18, is the reason the sanctuary started. Remarkably, Zazu looks so much like Iggy in both appearance and behaviour. When he attached himself to Emma whilst Iggy was in the vets, it was a touching and emotional sign that he wanted to join their pack. And now he is, another loyal follower of Emma

Mowgli

This furry feline used to live his life in a village with an owner who loved him. Sadly, when she died no one wanted him because he is "boring" and black. He is however, very friendly and loves people. He has moved around and around at the finca to find a volunteer to stay with. Currently he is staying with two lovely volunteers in their cave. He loves cuddles, mostly stays at home but also can be playful from time to time.

Guacamole

This little feline was discovered by one of our compassionate volunteers whilst out on a walk, in a truly distressing situation. He witnessed the poor kitten getting thrown out of a car window. Despite the kitten’s understable fear, our volunteer managed to rescue him. He carried the scared, scabby and skinny kitty home in his bag and brought him to safety.

Nacho

This lovable furry companion, named Nacho because her ears look like nachos, arrived together with James and Noisy. They came from a place where 19 cats were taken from a home where they unfortunately suffered from abuse. They were very traumatized and terrified, and one can only imagine the horrors they endured. Especially Nacho was a very, very frightened cat. It took a whole year of patience and gentle care to be able to slowly gain back her trust. She spent a lot of time watching the birdies in our bird cage.

Lumpy

He had been inside his cage for 12 years and during his time grew a huge mass. Once we decided to adopt him they operated on it. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the operation was unsuccessful and he had to be sewn back up with his mass. We were unsure why they chose to do it now at his age of 14.

Coco Loco

He spent 6 years in a cage in another rescue centre before coming to us. We have had him since early 2018. He was one of our first dogs we rescued on the island. Sadly no one wants this poor happy soul.
