Water Update

Here at Tenerife Horse Rescue, sustainability is one of our main goals. We have built this place using almost all things recycled, donated and even from the bins. This means that when it comes to water waste, we are no different in trying to use it in the best way. Almost all of the pipes here lead to a garden. The water from our showers and toilets run to greenhouses, as does the water from our old kitchen. The water in the kitchen, if boiling, is cooled before it’s put down the drain. We have recently moved into our new and bigger kitchen so we now have a new area that will have our water flowing to in that we can create another garden and greenhouse. This is an easy way for us to make sure water is getting the best life it can here. We also have hoses everywhere and buckets under everyone so that we don’t waste a drop. We then use those buckets for watering plants or a lot of the animals use the buckets for drinking. We take showers but we turn the water on and then off while we wash ourselves, then turn it on again for a quick rinse. We are very conscious about water waste here and we all do our best every day to ensure that the rescue uses as little water as possible and in the most sustainable way.
