After a leg injury ended his riding career, Echeyde became vulnerable, as many horses do on the island. Fortunately, he had a caring owner who kept him as a companion horse. Despite a freak accident where a tree fell on his back, Echeyde’s strength saw him through, and today you’d never know it happened.
When his previous home had to close and his companion horse passed away, Echeyde needed a new place to call home. That’s when we stepped in. Echeyde is the first resident of our future retirement paddock—a safe haven for horses like him before their stories turn sad.
In Tenerife, horses often become vulnerable when their riding careers end. Without proper care, they can end up in the wrong hands, facing neglect or being ridden despite their pain. We’ve lacked the space and funds to take in more horses like Echeyde, but we’re heading in the right direction now and hope to be able to rescue more horses like him soon. Echeyde’s arrival marks the beginning of this important journey.
We’re grateful to Echeyde’s previous carers, who have generously donated towards his first six months of care. If you’d like to help us welcome more horses into our sanctuary, please consider sponsoring Echeyde. As a sponsor, you’ll receive regular updates on his journey and see firsthand how your support is making a difference in his life. Your generosity ensures he, and others like him, receive the care and love they deserve. 💙
