The Future is theirs!

There’s always work to be done here at Tenerife Horse Rescue and we are SUPER excited to step forward with YOU! Without our sponsors, supporters, readers and viewers, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

Our Future Plans:

The Paddock Paradise:

Something we have been dreaming about for a long time, an even greater space for our horses to move more naturally for optimum health.

More space for goats and pigs:

Now we have the land and the chance to provide more and more space to the animals. Goats and pigs are the next ones looking forward to a bigger enclosure.

An educational centre:

Future is the most important, and kids are the key to it. We try to get into connection and invite as many school groups as possible to show them how beautiful life can be with animals, if they get the right care. To make this mission more successful we work for an educational centre for the next generation.

BioGas:

Our dream biogas reactor will be connected to our new showers and toilets. The decomposition of organic materials such as manure, sewage sludge and human waste generates biogas. This biogas can be utilised for cooking purposes in our kitchen, contributing to a cleaner and greener energy future.

Reforestation:

Make the area as green as possible. That's what we are constantly working on. Don’t forget that we are in the middle of the desert. But who knows, one day maybe we will be in the middle of a forest… :)

Vet Clinic:

When vets visit us they have to work outside in the field. We are struggling to find places to quarantine new animals.A vet clinic would be a sterile, isolated place where the vets can work properly, we can store all the medications and can quarantine new animals safely.

Since June 2022, we’ve acquired our new land, a blank canvas for new opportunities! and it is slowly being moulded into a seamless extension of our finca.

Previously we had been bursting at the seams. Emergency intakes of animals meant more positions to be filled, which meant more mouths to be fed and housed. The new land alleviates a lot of the stress and gives us a little more room to move, but a lot more work to do first.

What are we working on in 2024?

Let’s say our short term future plan is to keep up what we have achieved so far… being sustainable, you see. :)
Bigger land -> more animals -> more volunteers. We are now constantly having more than 50 people living in the community. The number of our animals reached 500 and our territory is much bigger. This is great and this was our previous goal: to grow. And we grew a lot. So time to relax…. Just kidding… :)
Days are busy. Lot of hungry mouths to feed, cleaning and the management of all is the greatest part of the everyday routine.
Many of our accommodations and communal areas were built years ago in the same mindset that we have now: Use what you have. But back in the days we had much less supplies and professional knowledge, so many of our current buildings need serious repairs, some of them require complete rebuilding.

But still, we’re always progressing and looking forward to our great future plans to make them real, just like the ones before:

Our new huge paddock is ready!

Some horses and sheeps could move in a huge enclosure:

Our horses are trained in our new training ring!

It’s also a nice play area for the dogs :)

We built a new big storage for food!

So we can save more!

We own a proper office space!

To welcome volunteers and visitors, and to make room for our ever-growing team (which is almost complete)

The new kitchen with a  big communal area is ready!

Much better situated and offers more seats to fit more bums!

2 new showers, 2 new toilets and a new water filtration system for them.

We got a windmill, helping the solar panels, especially on cloudy days!

So doing good and hopefully in the future will do even better!
