Tenerife Horse Rescue is located on Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, Spain, a popular tourist hotspot year-round, and it’s easy to understand why; the island is beautiful, with amazing weather all year.

However, the big downside of the island is that animal welfare is often poor. If you look beyond the resorts and beaches you will find kittens in the bin, puppies tied to fences, and horses kept in garages. If you look even closer you will see pregnant cats with diseases that could be fixed with simple vaccines, dogs with deadly parasites, and horses as young as one being ridden with rusty bits in their mouths and old saddles on their bleeding withers, often for the benefit of unsuspecting tourists.

Of course this doesn't happen everywhere, and thankfully there are a significant number of people who are dedicated to animal welfare, who are spending their lives trying to spread awareness and educate others to break the cycle. Us and a number of other charities are trying our hardest to create lasting change, as well as rescuing the animals of Tenerife, giving them a new life on our finca.

What Does Tenerife Horse Rescue Do?

We may be small but we are Tenerife's biggest sustainable registered charity that rescues horses (NGO) and we are growing every day! We want to continue growing as much as possible, but for this we need your help.

We strive to provide and promote the care and protection of all horses and animals by offering a place of safety to those in need. We offer them a home for the remainder of their lives, however long or short that may be. We retrain some horses with natural, kind and positive reinforcement methods. Soon after setting up our rescue centre we discovered that we couldn't stop with horses when so many other abandoned animals were in need of help around us, so we started rescuing smaller animals, including domestic pets who had been abandoned and neglected farm animals. Tenerife Horse Rescue is opened to visitors; we encourage people to come and see where their donations are going. We do not charge entry, rather asking for a small donation such as a bag of feed in exchange for meeting our menagerie of animals and witness the work we do with them. When possible we re-home animals, if we feel that they have the potential for a fulfilling life outside of our sanctuary. We also aim to educate owners and future generations about the value of horse and animal welfare. Animal Rescue and Care

We believe that every horse, pony, donkey and other animal has the right to a happy and healthy life, free from fear and neglect. We rescue abandoned, mistreated and neglected animals from across the Canary Islands, adopting them into our family and giving them a safe place to live as well as essential veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and lifelong care.
