Sirius

Did you know that cockerels can be really great pets? They can become very tame, love people and are very funny. As long as you have a garden prepared for some poop and your neighbors don't mind the noise they can become great family members.

Sadly this is rarely the case, weekly we get asked to take more cockerels. No one wants them. Everyone wants hens for the eggs, but the cockerels get abandoned due to the noise or being "useless". Unfortunately we have to say no now to every new cockerel that needs rescuing because we have so many. Over 100! We don't mind the noise, actually we love it. But the problem is with an unbalanced amount of too many cockerels and not enough hens, fights happen. This causes stress to both the cockerels and the hens in which they fight over. It's really sad as if we can't help them we don't know who will.

So if you are considering having chickens please keep your cockerels you might be surprised they are often the ones with most character and love to give like our finca mascot!
