You might have seen some posts recently about Sailor and Rex in need of a safe place. They have spend most of their lives in cages, moving from shelter to shelter. Unfortunately the shelter where they were staying suddenly had to close. The only option for them was to go to a big state shelter or come to us. Rex and Sailor are both quite nervous and shy dogs, so a big shelter is not the place for them. We tried to find a better solution for them, but there was no one who could take them in on short notice, so now they are staying with us.
Poor Sailor has been through a lot and he is very scared around people. Luckily he gets along with Rex really well and Rex gives him a lot emotional support. We are trying to work with him slowly, but at the moment Sailor does not really trust people yet and it is not possible to put a leash on him. He is has a sweet character, but he is just very nervous and will keep a safe distance from people. Our amazing volunteers go in to Rex's and Sailor's cage every day to spend time with them and built their confidence around people. We try to work with them to make them feel more at ease and they are slowly getting more comfortable around us.
Unfortunately, as we can not them on walks and we don't have an inclosed space to let them run around, they are in the cage for now. Sailor needs a safe and quiet home where he can slowly get out of his shell, gain trust in people again and feel loved.
These sweet dogs deserve a loving home where they can experience a happy live without any fear. Luckily, there is some hope for them as there is a couple with a finca that is interested in adopting them. However, it will take a few months before their new home would be ready for them. We believe that it's best for them to find a safe and loving home as soon as possible with someone who can spend time with them, so we are still looking for a place for them!
If you or someone you know can provide a warm and loving home for Rex and Sailor, or if you can help in any other way, like spreading the word or donate towards their care, we would be very grateful!
