Tenerife horse rescue está ubicado en Tenerife, Canary Islands in Spain, which is a very popular hotspot for tourists all year round and we understand why…it's beautiful with amazing weather all year! However, the downside is that behind the scenes the welfare of animals is quite poor. If you look beyond the resorts and beaches, you will find kittens in the bin, puppies tied to fences and horses kept in garages. If you look even closer you will see pregnant cats with diseases that can be fixed with simple vaccines, dogs with deadly parasites and horses as young as one being ridden with rusty bits in their mouths and old saddles on their bleeding withers often for the benefit of tourists.
Of course, this doesn't happen everywhere and thankfully there are a great team of animal welfare enthusiasts trying to spread awareness and educate others to break the cycle. We are trying our hardest to join them in creating lasting change, as well as rescuing the animals of Tenerife, giving them a new life on our finca.
What Does Tenerife Horse Rescue Do?
We may be small but we are Tenerife's only registered charity that rescues horses (NGO) and we are growing every day! We are willing to continue growing as much as we can with your help.
We strive to provide and promote the care and protection of all horses and animals by offering a place of safety to those in need. We offer them a home on site for the remainder of their lives, however long or short. We retrain some horses with natural, kind and positive reinforcement methods. We soon found that we couldn't stop with horses when so many other abandonded animals were in need of help around us. all needing help, so we started rescuing smaller animals and farm animals. Tenerife horse rescue is opened for visitors, encouraging people to come and see where their donations are going. We do not charge entry, rather asking for a small donation such as a bag of feed in exchange for meeting our menagerie of animals and witness the work we do with them. We occasionally re-home some animals, if we feel they have the potential for a fulfilling life outside of our sanctuary. We also aim to educate owners and future generations about the value of horse and animal welfare. For the rescued animals who live with us at the finca,we look for kind sponsors to help keep them fed and cover essential veterinary care. Read more about donations.
Animal rescue and Care
We believe that every horse, pony, donkey and animal has the right to a happy and healthy life, free from fear and neglect. We rescue abandoned, mistreated and neglected animals from across the Canary Islands adopting and giving them a safe place to live and providing essential veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and lifelong care.
